Reciprocal U.S. Tariffs Announced

Dear Valued Customer, 

The White House announced today that reciprocal tariffs will be implemented under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The fact sheet and executive order published today advises: 

• 10% tariff will be imposed on all goods imported from all countries (except for the exemptions below) effective April 5, 2025, at 12:01 am EST. The 10% tariff will be applied on all goods entered or withdrawn from a warehouse for consumption – except for goods loaded onto a vessel at the port of loading and in transit on the final mode of transportation before 12:01 a.m. EST on April 5, 2025, and entered for consumption after April 5.  
• Higher tariffs will be imposed on specific countries effective April 9, 2025, at 12:01 am EST. Countries that did not receive a specific rate will continue to have a 10% tariff applied. The higher country-specific tariffs will be applied on all goods entered or withdrawn from a warehouse for consumption – except for goods loaded onto a vessel at the port of loading and in transit on the final mode of transportation before 12:01 a.m. EST on April 9, 2025, and entered for consumption after April 9. 
• Goods from Canada and Mexico will continue to fall under the IEEPA tariffs already in place. Goods compliant with the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement will remain duty free, except for automobiles and auto parts, while non-compliant goods will continue to have a 25% tariff.

The tariffs are in addition to other duties, taxes, fees, and charges already in place – except for the exempted goods from Canada and Mexico. The tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. government determines that increases or decreases should be implemented.  

Goods entered into a foreign trade zone (FTZ) on or after 12:01 am EST on April 9 must be admitted as “privileged foreign status,” except for goods that are eligible for admission under “domestic status.”  

The fact sheet and executive order state that some goods will be exempt from the reciprocal tariffs, specifically: 

• Articles subject to 50 USC 1702(b) 
• Steel/aluminium articles and automobiles and parts already subject to Section 232 tariffs 
• Copper, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and lumber articles 
• Any articles that may be subject to future Section 232 tariffs 
• Bullion 
• Energy and other minerals not available in the United States 

On April 3, 2025, the White House published an update listing over 1,000 products that are exempt from the order.
